South America is the southern continent of the Americas, situated entirely in the Western Hemisphere and mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean; North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest.South America was named in 1580 by cartographers Martin Waldseemüller and Matthias Ringmann after Amerigo Vespucci, who was the first European to suggest that the Americas were not the East Indies, but a New World unknown to Europeans.

| The rainforests of South America are home to more species or populations than all other biomes combined. 82% of the world's biodiversity could be found in tropical rainforests. The leafy tops of tall trees - extending from 50 to 85 meters above the forest floor - forms an understory. Organic matter that falls to the forest floor quickly decomposes, and the nutrients are recycled. There are plants and flowers in South America which still have not been discovered which is exciting and interesting for flower and botanical enthusiasts the world over. |

| It has been estimated that some 3,000 plant genera are endemic to South America. The largest vegetation zone in the continent is the tropical rainforest in the north. Moving southwards, the vegetation passes through tall-grass forest, Pampas, and scrub to steppe in the far south. The west coast has a narrow strip of desert; behind this stand the high Andes, whose vegetation changes with altitude and humidity. In the southwest are deciduous forests of beech. Flowers and flora are a big part of South American cluture and history, celebrate special occasions with South American flower delivery. |
